Sjoerd Marijne had a dream to win a medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo with the women's hockey team of India. He did not win a medal but something much bigger, namely the hearts of all Indians and he inspired 1.3 billion people. They saw a team that didn't win a competition at the Rio Olympics and now finished 4th and made history for India.
He worked with players he didn't understand and in a totally different culture without his family, he created a high performance culture where each individual was pushed to reach their potential.
In his lecture, Sjoerd Marijne, based on his passion and drive, explains how he has approached this process and how you can get the best out of your team and create a culture within your company that increases the chance of success.
The team and Sjoerd personally had many setbacks in those 4.5 years, but those setbacks made them stronger and ultimately made them into a team that never gives up and where the players stood in their strength.
Sjoerd Marijne has been coaching at the highest level for 20 years, both nationally and internationally. He became world champion in the Dutch girls under 21 and started his journey in India in 2017 where he first started coaching the women and after 6 months he was transferred to the Indian men's team for 9 months and shifted back to the women he led to 4th place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Because Sjoerd is also an entrepreneur and is involved in several companies, he can point out exactly the similarities and where both worlds of sport and business can learn from each other.
His story is not only how to reach your dream goal, but it is also a story of how to push yourself. He was locked up in the training center for a year and a half where you were not allowed to go outside but every day he made the best of it, because he had a dream and he had the willpower to realize this dream.
